QUASAR technology successfully acquires ECG data on firefighters during “live fire” training exercise.
Under sponsorship from the Department of Homeland Security’s SBIR Program, QUASAR conducted a project in collaboration with the University of Illinois’ Fire Services Institute to investigate the feasibility of using QUASAR’s sensors to acquire ECG data on subjects undergoing “live fire” training. The QUASAR sensors were integrated into an undershirt (see below) to be worn by subjects during the training exercise.

Results of the tests were as follows:
- Heart rate: accuracy better than 99%,
- Bradycardia accuracy better than 99%,
- Ventricular Fibrillation and Ventricular Tachycardia: 100% accuracy and no false alarms
- Premature Ventricular Contractions: a false alarm rate of less than 0.6%
- Data collected were of sufficient fidelity to support a reliable automated cardiac event early warning system

QUASAR awarded contract for cognitive monitoring project
QUASAR, Inc. has been awarded a $750K Phase II SBIR contract by the Army to develop a system based on our
noncontacting bioelectric sensing technology incorporated into headgear such as a cap or visor for
brain monitoring. The sensor hardware will be integrated with precision algorithms and gauges developed
specifically for this program to produce a lightweight, wearable, noninvasive sensor suite to provide
forewarning of an impending change in an individual’s cognitive performance. QUASAR will collaborate with
Dr. John Polich of the Scripps Research Institute on experiments designed to develop the gauges and algorithms
and hone their performance.
