New Applications Development
QUASAR has many ongoing projects with expert collaborators investigating the use of our technology in systems based on the measurement of electroencephalogram (EEG), electromyogram (EMG), and electrooculogram (EOG). We are in the process of developing sophisticated engineering and signal processing groups to enhance our capability to provide completely functional systems. We have also established working relationships with industry experts to ensure that new opportunities are identified and developed.

QUASAR has recently completed a project demonstrating our technology's capability to acquire cardiac data on subjects undergoing live fire firefighter training. In addition, we have developed a prototype system to measure cognitive workload using EEG and are working a similar system to provide information about the cognitive state of Command and Control (C2) terminal operators. Finally, we have an ongoing project with the Army to measure EEG on ambulatory subjects during military training exercises.

Prototype EOG Glasses
Conventional EOG is usually measured by four conventionally prepped wet electrodes placed at the right and left temples and above and below one eye. Noninvasive, zero prep time EOG glasses have been developed as part of a collaboration between QUASAR and Boeing for DARPA’s AUGCOG program. (http://www.darpa.mil/ipto/programs/augcog/index.htm)

The EOG glasses shown below hold four sensors in the desired locations but require no preparation. The glasses can be put on in the same manner as normal corrective eyewear, and EOG can be recorded instantaneously. Users can wear the system comfortably for extended periods of time.
